Help and Frequently Asked Questions

What is Social Innovation Conversations?

Social Innovation Conversations is an open and collaborative online platform for cross-sector and multidisciplinary learning for social change. Social Innovation Conversations is part of the Conversations Network, a non-profit online publisher for the recording of spoken-word events such as conferences, lectures and meetings. For more details, read about our mission.

How do I find programs to listen to?

Programs are featured on the homepage in the order they are released. You can navigate the site by series, topic of interest or producer. When you resgister as a member or guest of the Conversations Network, you also have the option of subscribing to Eric and Alana's free weekly email announcement which summarizes the previous week's programs (complete with listener ratings) and brings you the latest news and developments from Social Innovation Conversations. Also, as a registered member or guest of The Conversations Network, you can use our recommendation engine to find programs we think will interest you according to your rating of shows you have been listening to.

Do I have to be a member in order to listen?

Absolutely not! Membership in the Conversations Network is not required to listen to our programs! They are free for all to hear. However, members receive personalized benefits such as recommendations, a Personal Program Queue™, and write access to the Network discussion forums. For a complete list of membership categories and benefits, visit our Why Register? page.

How do I listen to programs?

The simplest way to listen is to click on the Play Now button shown next to all of our programs.

How do I download programs to my computer's hard disk?

If you're on our home page, click the "more" link for the program you want to download. On each program page you'll see an "MP3" link. Right-click (Windows) or control-click (Mac) on that link, then select "Save Link As…" or the equivalent in the pop-up window. Select the filename and directory where you want to save the audio file.

What's a Podcast?

Podcasting is how we send out our programs so that you can subscribe to them. You can receive them automatically (and for free) using podcatcher software or a free online service.

This means you don't have to keep coming back to The Social Innovation Conversations web site to check for new programs. You can also transfer our programs to your portable MP3 player so you can listen when and where you want. Your MP3 player becomes a portable TiVo® for radio.
Don't be confused by the name Podcasting. Yes, you can use an Apple iPod®, but you don't need one. You can use other portable MP3 players, or you can listen without any player at all, directly from your desktop or portable computer using services like Odeo.

How do I subscribe to the channel's audio programs?

Our audio programs are delivered in series. You can subscribe to all of Social Innovation Conversations' programming or to any specific series.

To subscribe to our programs you can use podcast directories like Odeo, a free online service that doesn't require any special hardware or software, or if you have an Apple iPod, the Apple iTunes music store. Search for our programs and subscribe to them using the directory subscription features.

If you're already familiar with podcasting, you may prefer to subscribe to one or more of our specialized RSS feeds with a podcatcher software application, like FeedDemon or the iTunes program.

To subscribe with iTunes to the Social Innovation Conversations audio programs, identify the series you want to subscribe to and click on the corresponding iTunes button. This will open your iTunes software and add the series to your subscriptions.

Can we advertise on Social Innovation Conversations?

If you would like to be a Social Innovation Conversations underwriter for a period of time or underwrite a particular event or series, please send an email to socialinnovation@conversationsnetwork.org. We will send you our latest Media Kit.
