Craigslist Foundation's San Francisco Bay Area Nonprofit Boot Camp brought together an enthusiastic crowd of aspiring and seasoned nonprofit professionals to help each other learn and succeed. In this opening keynote, Darian Rodgriguez Heyman heralds the great opportunities and challenges in the nonprofit sector today, with a tribute to his audience of dedicated fighters who stand up for civil rights, women's rights, environment, education, child protection, gay rights, public health, or other socially responsible causes. Heyman goes on to provide an overview of the day-long, multi-track program, and a sense of scope for the event, which was pulled together through the hard work of hundreds of volunteers, sponsors, vendors and speakers.

The main goal of Boot Camp is to showcase the many resources available to support today's social entrepreneur. The event's full program of interactive workshops is overflowing with practical wisdom to help nonprofit leaders succeed in their mission and manage their organizations more effectively. Quoting Einstein, Heyman reminds us, "you don't need to know all the answers, just where to find them."

Charlie Crystle, the founder and CEO of Mission Research, takes to the podium to welcome the participants and explain the philosophy of his software company, the presenting sponsor for the NYC and Bay Area Boot Camps. Mission Research is leading by example to show that non-profits themselves can be run as socially responsible, sustainable businesses by pursuing the triple bottom line: people, planet, and profits.

These talks launch the Craigslist Foundation Nonprofit Boot Camp series on the Social Innovations channel. Future shows will cover a range of topics of interest to all changemakers, from inspiring, personal narratives to nuts-and-bolts advice on writing effective mission statements; understanding tax law; managing boards; fundraising; harnessing technology; and much, much more.

Shortly thereafter, he started Project Pangea and produced interdisciplinary fundraisers around various cultural themes, uniting DJs, musicians, poets, dancers, fashion designers, artists and community members, all while promoting cultural exchange and supporting art and music programs for underprivileged children.
