A fundraising plan allows nonprofit organizations to generate multiple revenue streams, which is key to keeping revenue and allows organizations to pursue other granting avenues which require diversified funders. A plan also helps nonprofits to communicate their vision and their strengths effectively, creating buy-in from Board members and donors.

In this first part of the two-part program, Scott Ullman introduces many of the fundamental planning issues, drawn from workshops offered by the Foundation Center. There's a clear distinction between short term responses to a funding crisis and the longer range planning that can help avoid those crises altogether. A well crafted mission statement supported by a strategic plan and a sound budget are the keys to connecting with new contacts and fundraising partners, as well as building loyalty with existing donors who are the most likely sources of support.
